Our History, Mission, and Vision

Rooted in community.
Built on a legacy of care.

August Rose Health Center was founded on a simple but powerful belief — that every person deserves access to compassionate, high-quality mental health care, regardless of their background or circumstances. That belief didn't begin in a boardroom.

It began at a kitchen table, in a daycare, and in the hands of women who gave freely to their community long before August Rose existed.

Our Story: How August Rose began

Della Roderick grew up watching the women in her family give. Her grandmother Roberta opened her doors to neighbors in need — offering plates of food freely, without expectation. Her mother Carla built a daycare from the ground up and opened her home as a foster parent, caring for children who needed stability and love.

These were not grand gestures. They were daily acts of showing up — of believing that community care is not a program or a policy, but a practice passed from one generation to the next.

When Della became a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, she carried that legacy with her. In 2018 she founded August Rose Health Center in Glen Burnie, Maryland — creating a place where adults, teens, and children could access compassionate mental health care, regardless of their insurance status or financial circumstances.

The name August Rose reflects that same spirit: something that blooms in its own time, with the right care and the right conditions.

"I watched my grandmother feed people from her kitchen and my mother open her home to children who needed one. I wanted to build something that carried that same spirit — a place where everyone who walks through the door feels like they belong."

— Della Roderick, LCPC · Founder & Executive Director
