What is online therapy?
Online therapy — also called virtual therapy, telehealth therapy, or teletherapy — is mental health care delivered through a secure video call instead of an in-person office visit. Everything about the session is the same as in-person therapy: the same licensed therapist, the same evidence-based approaches, the same length session, the same confidentiality protections. The only difference is that you join from wherever you are in Maryland instead of driving to a clinic.
Online therapy is not a new or experimental approach. Research consistently shows that online therapy produces outcomes equivalent to in-person therapy for anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, and most other mental health conditions.

Who is online therapy right for? Online therapy through August Rose Health Center is a strong fit for Maryland residents who: Have a busy schedule and cannot easily attend in-person appointments during clinic hours. Have transportation challenges — no car, no reliable transit, or physical limitations that make travel difficult. Live in a part of Maryland where in-person mental health providers are limited or unavailable. Prefer the privacy and comfort of receiving therapy from their own home. Have previously tried in-person therapy and want a more flexible option. Are already familiar with video calls and comfortable using technology for appointments. Online therapy may not be the best fit for individuals currently in crisis or experiencing a mental health emergency. If you or someone you know needs immediate support, please call 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline) or go to your nearest emergency room.
