OMHC Social Work Intern

Professional Background & Experience I am a graduate student in social work at Walden University with four years of experience in behavioral and mental health across PHP, outpatient, and community‑based settings. I currently work as a PRP counselor at Concerted Care Group, supporting individuals navigating substance use disorders, co‑occurring mental health challenges, and the social determinants that shape long‑term recovery. My work focuses on life‑skills development, emotional regulation, harm‑reduction‑oriented support, and individualized rehabilitation planning for adults facing complex psychosocial barriers. I also bring strong milieu experience from my role as a milieu counselor in a PHP eating‑disorder program, where I facilitated therapeutic groups, provided crisis intervention, and maintained a structured, trauma‑informed environment for adolescents and adults. Additionally, my time in Cornerstone Montgomery’s Youth in Transition program strengthened my ability to advocate for young adults with significant mental health needs as they accessed Social Security benefits, vocational supports, and independent‑living resources. These combined experiences have shaped my specialization in trauma‑informed care, motivational interviewing, and integrated substance use treatment, with a strong commitment to culturally responsive practice and supporting clients through recovery, stabilization, and sustainable life changes. Areas of Interest / Specialization My areas of clinical interest are broad and intentionally evolving as I continue building experience across the behavioral and mental health field. I am passionate about working with diverse populations and gaining exposure to multiple levels of care, including substance use treatment, community‑based rehabilitation, and structured milieu environments. I am especially drawn to supporting adults and transition‑age youth who face complex psychosocial barriers, but I remain open to expanding my skills with different diagnoses, cultural backgrounds, and treatment needs. My goal at this stage in my career is to strengthen my foundation in trauma‑informed practice, motivational interviewing, and integrated behavioral health approaches while continuing to explore new settings and modalities. I value opportunities that allow me to grow as a clinician, deepen cultural responsiveness, and develop a well‑rounded skill set that supports clients across the spectrum of recovery and mental wellness. Approach to Supporting Clients My approach to supporting clients is guided by a deep commitment to meeting people exactly where they are and honoring the lived experiences they bring into the therapeutic space. I am inspired by the resilience clients show as they navigate recovery, mental health challenges, and the social barriers that shape their daily lives. Whether working with individuals facing substance use, co‑occurring disorders, or complex psychosocial needs, I prioritize trauma‑informed care, cultural responsiveness, and a strengths‑based perspective that centers each client’s autonomy and capacity for growth. I strive to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe exploring their goals, practicing new skills, and building confidence. My work is grounded in collaboration, curiosity, and the belief that healing is not linear — and that meaningful change happens when clients feel seen, supported, and empowered. Personal Motto, Guiding Principle “Be where your feet are” is the guiding principle that shapes both my personal and professional philosophy. It reminds me to stay grounded, present, and fully engaged with each client, meeting them exactly where they are in their journey. This mindset helps me create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where clients feel seen, heard, and empowered to take meaningful steps toward healing and stability. It also encourages intentionality, patience, and compassion — values that guide my work across diverse behavioral health settings.
