Ebony Bernard,
OMHC Social Work Intern
Professional Background & Experience I am a criminal justice professional with more than eight years of experience within the Maryland Judiciary and a current Master of Social Work student developing a specialization in Urban children, youth, and families. My professional experience includes working with individuals involved in the justice system, conducting assessments, responding to crisis situations. My areas of developing expertise include mental health, case management, advocacy, crisis intervention, trauma informed practice, and supporting individuals and families navigating complex social systems. I am committed to providing compassionate, respectful, and client centered support while continuing to strengthen my clinical skills and knowledge through graduate education and supervised practice. Areas of Interest / Specialization My clinical interests include mental health, trauma informed care, crisis intervention, case management, and forensic social work. I am especially passionate about serving children, adolescents, and families, as well as individuals and families impacted by the criminal justice system. I am interested in forensic social work because it provides an opportunity to address the behavioral health, social, and emotional needs of individuals involved with courts, corrections, and other justice systems while also advocating for appropriate resources and support. My professional experience within the Maryland Judiciary has strengthened my interest in working at the intersection of social work and the legal system, and I hope to develop clinical skills that allow me to provide culturally responsive, trauma informed, and client centered services to vulnerable populations. Approach to Support Clients I am inspired by the opportunity to help individuals and families feel heard, supported, and empowered during challenging times. My approach is grounded in empathy, active listening, respect, and understanding each client’s unique experiences and strengths. I believe in creating a safe and nonjudgmental environment where clients can openly express their concerns while working collaboratively toward meaningful goals. My experiences in the criminal justice system and social work education have strengthened my commitment to advocacy, trauma informed care, and culturally responsive support for individuals, families, and communities. Personal Motto, Guiding Principle, or Favorite Quote “I now see how owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do.” —Brené Brown Getting Started
